Frequency Response

What it shows. Output level against frequency, both channels, from START to STOP.

The theory. A sweep steps the generator through frequencies and reads the level at each. On its own that measures the whole chain, cables and analyzer included. To see only the DUT, you first measure a thru reference, the same cabling with the DUT removed, and divide by it. In dB that is a subtraction, so a perfectly flat DUT reads 0 dB everywhere and the plot shows true gain.

Operating it. Set INPUT, OUTPUT LEVEL, START, STOP and POINTS, then RUN SWEEP. To normalise, run the thru first and press SET REF, then connect the DUT and sweep again. CLEAR NORM goes back to absolute dBV.

Frequency response through a DUT on the XLR input, both channels, 20 Hz to 20 kHz at −20 dBV, after SET REF normalized out the cabling: flat to a few hundredths of a dB (−0.02 / −0.01 dB at 224.6 Hz), with a slight droop at 20 Hz.

Status. Hardware-verified. It was one of the first two measurements working, in May. With normalisation, a Schiit SYS preamp at full volume reads about −0.04 dB flat.
